22nd Wensday
Started to the front with one day light rations at half past one PM. Went out to the front of Petersburg and kept up the river along the line of earthworks. Had some trouble finding our corps. Crossed the railroad. The 2nd and sixth corps are engaged this afternoon. The second corps lost a brigade of men and four pieces of artillery. Found our brigade about five PM. Got ready to issue and was ordered back out of the way for the division was going to make a charge. Went back half a mile and park near the headquarter wagons near the corps headquarters. Very hot today, awful dusty.
