May 29th Sunday
Started about eight oclock. Passed through Newtown where we met a detachment of the 2nd Ohio cavarly. They say that the army train passed through that town yesterday. They captured nine rebel wagons loaded with hams, Bacon and flour on their way to Richmond. They destroyed all of the wagons but one ____ the Matripony(?) river about eight oclock ____ ____ ____ ____. The original bridge was burnt. Parked about a mile from the bridge. It has been very warm and dusty today. The country here is better than some we have passed through. Some very nice houses along the road.
