May 27th Friday
Started at six this morning with seven wagons to go to Port Royal after suppliers. Passed through Bowling Green. The roads are quite muddy. Arrived at Port Royal about two oclock PM. Put in my estimate but can not get loaded today. Part of the invalid(?) corps are doing _____ duty. The river is full of steamboats ____ and other ____. It looks like cavalry(?) life here was shaved(?) and had my hair out cut by a barber in____. We are parked just outside of the town. At night went a swimming in the river. Among a lot of rebel prisoner here is a man that has a brother and cousin in my company.
