cloudy most of the day. There was some rebel cavalry in sight today Supposed to be about eight hundred strong. Wrote to Aunt Mary. Wm. Dewey and to father and after I had the letter wrote heard that he was up here. I supposed that he was at Retenburg (Petersville ?) The evening reports came in that our whole brigade was captured Afterwards it got down to total lost three hundred
