Sept 16th Wensday Cloudy part of the day but the sun came out very hot in the afternoon got started about seven AM the sulphur spring the build- ings are mostly burned. It has been a splendid place in its time. The road was very bad in some places. parked in an open field near the hazel river We parked because it was so dark and the road so bad that it was impossible to go any further The first and second Regiment was guard to-day. I drove a team nearly all day Crossed the Rappahannock and hazel rivers there was one man killed while crossing the hazel river He was riding accross on the wagon when an officer ordered him to get off. In trying to jump off he fell in the water and was run over
