Jan 2nd, Saturday. Clear but very cold. It froze very hard last night. Issued two days rations. There was a lot of Recnuits came to the fifteenth Regiment today. They are from Newton. Received a letter from my sister, Ella.
3rd, Sunday. Clear and not very cold. In the afternoon went to the Regiment. Wrote a letter to mother. Sent two dollars in it. No business done today. Very dull.
