3rd, Thursday. Clear and very pleasant today. ABout six oclock war ordered to pack up. Got started about nine. Came back to the burned house there we turned off to the left and passed a sawmill. Met the first going back toward Kelly Ford. The roads are the worst that I ever saw. Crossed the railroad at Brandy Station. Left five wagons there to draw stores. Got to our old camp about dusk. The brigade lay just where it did before. Issued three days rations. Did not get through until near twelve oclock. Had orders to move at daylightin the morning. It was said that the Rebels. Crossing in force at Racoon Ford. Issued a ration of whiskey and one of patatoes.
