ordered to start. After going half a mile we came to a wood. There the mud was up toe the axles. The wai the worst place that I think I ever saw. After getting through the woods we came to a very nice place that wa$ said to belong to Mosby. The men were so exasperated at the doing of the Rebs this morning that they want to work and burned every building on the place. The main house was a very nice one and had the most beautiful ivory topped furniture in it. They was all destroyed. Parked in an open field about ten oclock at nightfhe roads are in a terrible condition. We could hear heavy cannonading & musketry on our right.
