May 26 Friday Cloudy and steady rain all day. Issued two days rations this morning and moved at ten o'clock. Crossed the railroad at Chesterfield Station. Crossed the Pole Cat River and one or two streams that I did not learn the names of. The river was so high that the water was over the mules backs and run in the wagons. The roads are as bad as I ever saw. Camped after going about ten miles. The supply trains will not cross the river today the troops waded the river water deep.
