May 5 Friday
Clear and very pleasant we got started about ten o'clock I rode on the engine all the way. We stopped at nearly all of the stations. The engine was named the jas A Seddon. The engineer was a rebel. At Keysville we passed our division train. I stood on the cow catcher and waved my handkercheif to the boys. Run over the new bridge across the Staunton River built by our engineer corps we arrived at Burksville Junction at 6 p.m. The 1st Brigade was all night getting in. The train that the fifteenth regiment was in broke down about thirty miles back. Received a letter & paper from horne. Issued two days ration.
