May 4 Thursday
Clear most of the day. Showers in the afternoon. About noon we got orders to pack up. Marched down to the depot and got on the cars about four p.m. expected to start about six but learned at that time that we could not get off until morning. Genl. Wheaton, persons + staff with Div. & Brig. Provost guards Sharpshooters and pioneers with baggage go on the first train. The 62nd N York Vols are on another train ordered home to report to Genl. Dix. The engine Jas A Seddon of paterson manufacture taken in town.
