April 27 Thursday
Started at seven a.m. marched steady and fast untill we was within five miles of Danville when we stopped for a rest. After that we marched slow entered the town about five p.m. The 3rd Brigade 2 Div. are doing Provost duty Guards were stationed along the side of the street and no one was allowed to walk on the sidewalk, except citizens and negroes. Some spl endid houses in town our Headquarter are just on the outskirts of the place put up my wall tent. Had some sales. Weather very warm . Some of our corps took possession of the printing office and printed a paper entitled the sixth corps issued daily.
