April 25 Tuesday
Started at six o'clock this a.m. crossed the river at Ferry on a pontoon bridge. The roads are very good. Camped about 5 p.m. at Halifax Court House. We passed through Laurel Hill today. The weather is very warm and pleasant. Was about two miles off the road today but did not get anything. Saw a good many of Lee's paroled soldiers[.] The people are very kind and give us milk and bread or whatever we want . Have four months from today to serve Uncle Sam.
