April 8 Saturday
about ten o'clock last night we received orders to start out with the supply train. traveled all night and arrived at Farmville about eight this morning found the div. here. First moving out but they stopped to secure the rations. Saw Genl Grant and Meade after issuing we took the Plank Road and passed through a small town parked for the night at a place called New Store about eleven a.m .. The road is strewn with Rebel Baggage saw where they had burnt three or four hundred wagons Heard some cannonading in advance. Weather clear and pleasant.
