30th Tuesday Started about eight o’clock passed through Lewisburg, Springs Mills. Crossed the Western Maryland railroad runs from [illegible] springs to baltimore. Arrived at West Minster about noon. the train stopped here sometime the rebel cavelry [sic] were here this morning they had a skirmish with about one hundred of our cavely [sic]. They was repulsed and driven back they burnt their wagons to keep their from falling in to our hands during the skirmish there was two killed on each side and some wounded. We got about fifty prisoners. The inhabitants of the place seen to be strong union. Especially the woman. A pail of good cool water was set before almost every door and in some places there was much
