(June 30th Tuesday continued) bread and butter and lemonade all freely given away the ladies were all very sociable and said that they was glad that the army was there. After staying there some time we started on and parked about two miles from Manchester. The brigade was rear Guard and did not get in again untill [sic] near 11 o’clock. I had to sit up and issue one days rations of H Bread coffee sugar and fresh meat. it was one o’clock when i went to bed. Showery all day we passed through a place called M[illegible] tavern just after leaving West Minster There was hundred of bushels of the best kind of cherries along the road and a good many Raspberries. This is the last day i write in this diary having kept it since August 1st, 1862.
