June 18th Thursday
was woke up at four o’clock got ready and did not get started untill [sic] about eight AM passed the Station and the town of Fairfax. parked about two miles from the town. The brigade lays near us. It has been very hot all day. a good many have been sun struck Capt Fitts was taken sick at the station and did not get up to the train untill [sic] night. Just at night There came up a very heavy shower. There was some very large hail stones fell. Issued one days to the brigade while it was raining Saw a lot of ambulances go past with wounded cavelry [sic], It is said that they have had a fight about eighteen miles from here. It is raining yet – 9 PM.
