(May 31st Sunday (continued))
what is more to be regretted is that when she went away she left him some oranges lemons and apples, and left money with one of the Stewards or nurses to get things for him and now when he wants anything he cannot get it the nurses and Stewards have eat up all the things that was left for him and spent his money I Believe his name is [blank] and from [blank] About half past three o’clock we started back. I stopped at Birney’s headquarters and saw Conner Smith when we got to white oak church I turned to the left and went to the twenty sixth NJ vols and saw Charley Collins from Newark got back to headquarters about six PM.
