24th Sunday
After riding all night last night i arrived in washington about half past six. Gave a negro twenty five cents to carry my baggage to the boat which is about one mile and a half went on the same boat that I come up on; it was the John A. Brooks. It was very misty on on the river and the passage was not as pleasent [sic] coming down as it was going up the boat stopped at the arsenal and took aboard a great many boxes of guns Ammunition and equipments. Took the cars at aquia creek and arrived at falmouth about two o’clock. found the brigade in the same place that it was when I went away. I had a valise and carpetsack. They was very heavy to carry
