May 15th Friday
went to Morris and Essex depot and left my valise then went and bought a cap for $1.15. I went down to Hewer[?] and Philips[?] and saw Irving drake. He quite [sic] work and we went to New York. was up broadway to 421. Went down to the battery and got our dinner. after dinner we went up in trinity church steeple it is a very fine sight from there. After that we went to Barnum. i see the baby show. There we saw some very pretty babies and some very ugly ones. Bought a pair of shad[?] in Jersey city for go – Irving left me at Newark. Arrived at newton at seven o’clock PM, found the folks all well.
