(4th Monday (continued))
Infantry commenced. It seemed to be straight back of fredericksburg but some distance back. It was awful the fire form all our batteries along the river and all all [sic] the artillery that we had on the other side of the river seemed to be pouring in to one place[?] while the musketry was kept up and charge after charge was made we could not tell whether the charges was made by our men or the rebels although we could hear them yell and cheer our corps (the sixth) the only one that is across the river, here has formed a Junction with hooker It is reported here form reliable authority that our brigade and in fact the whole division has suffered terribly I have learned
