(April 30th Thursday (continued))
went to our old camp today and brought up everything that was left there. They brought one day issue of fresh bread and some [illegible]. About five PM very heavy firing commenced on the left and continued untill [sic] after dark. We could see some of the shells bursting in the air We are about two miles west of our old camp and about a mile from the river. about midway between falmouth and Fredericksburg The third Corps moved from the left to the right. Ammunition supply and ambulance trains are passing all the time some going to the front and some to the rear balloon has been up all day so near us that we could see the men in the basket!
