Jan 21st Wensday [sic]
about eight AM we was ordered to pack up and be ready to fall in line at a minutes notice we fell in and marched about half a mile when we stacked arms in a pine woods and rested untill [sic] about noon. Then we marched on across a brook and over a big hill where the mud was ankle deep. halted in an oak woods for the night it rained more or less all day and night. while we was resting in the pine woods Berden’s sharp shooters went ahead of us. It is said that there is twenty four absentees form this regt. Eleven are form Co. I as near as I can find out – we are about four miles above Fredericksburg and about one mile from the river
