Dec 24 Wensday[sic]
In the fore noon we drilled about one hour. Company drill. no drill in the afternoon two of the boys, Mart Kintner and Charley Simpson went out side of the lines and bought some cornmeal and some corn for supper we had hoecake and beef stake. after supper we roasted some corn. It was very good for a change. we drew fresh meat at night.
25th Thursday
Today is christmas my first in the army. was mustered in the united states service just five months ago today. for dinner today we had boiled beans fresh beef and hard tack. for supper we had beef stake
