detailed to fire a salute over his grave. Myself being one of them about sundown the box was closed and he was carried to the grave. The drum corps first then the eight men armed then the corpse and then the drums corps playing the dead march. After he was laid in the grave and the sermon gone through with, we fired twenty four guns over him and came away. the drum corps playing Yankee doddle and thus we buried the first one of our company in the evening saw Sidney McCarter. Went to prayer meeting.
