6th.
Reville [sic] at 6 AM. Had orders to march at eight but did not get started untill [sic] about half past Eleven. It was said that Stuart’s rebel cavalry threatened our supply train so the fifthteen [sic] and twenty third regiments was detailed for rear guard. Brig. Gen. Gen. Tolberts [sic] was in the rear with his staff and body guard. Three peices [sic] of Heximers Battery was in the rear also. Camped on White Plains near the station about 6 PM having marched about fourteen miles drawed two days rations. Camped on an open field on the South side of the railroad track.
7th.
Companies A F D and I of the fifteenth was detailed for division guard. We was posted about half a mile from camp about seven AM it commenced snowing and continued all day. We was posted in the woods on the west side of the railroad track. Built a house of brush and had a big fire and lived very comfortably. There was ten of us on this post. Leiut. [sic] Vanvoy James McCarter Mart Kintner and myself with six others was releived [sic] about 11 AM of the 8th. In the morning it cleared off and was a very nice day. Went in to camp and put up our tent. Went and saw Capt. Fitts at night drew one days rations
