21st.
about 11 o’clock AM we had orders to pack our knapsacks and be ready to march at a moments notice. Afternoon we had battalion drill. After supper we had three days rations dealt out to us expected that we would march in the night but did not. 22nd.
In the night the wind blew up very hard and continued so all day inspection of arms at half past twelve. No battalion drill today company drill at 3 PM.
23rd.
Battalion drill in the afternoon. Saw Sidney McCarter.
24th.
Was over to the brigade in the morning Battalion drill in afternoon
25th.
Received two letters from Aunt Mary and Uncle Sam had division review Brig Gen. Brooks and Acct Brig. Gen. Tolberts [sic] There was about seven thousand infantry troops and Battery D of the second United States Regular Artillery the review lasted about one hour and was a very fine affair.
