16th.
Went over to the Brigade. Had battalion drill in afternoon. George Smith of Harris Light Cav came in camp. Heard heavy firing in the direction of Winchester in evening a heavy shower came up
17th.
Had battalion drill by Col. Fowler
18th.
Was detailed for guard duty as supernumerary. Acted as corporal guarded a Private house and barn and orchard about half a mile from camp about half past-‐five o’clock three load of knapsacks arrived. My own came all right except losing a pair of shoes.
19th.
Was not relieved untill [sic] one o’clock PM on account of having brigade inspection
20th.
Had orders to pack our knapsacks and strike our tents. About eight AM we fell in in [sic] line of battle and marched about half a mile to a woods and pitched our tents.
21st.
about 11 o’clock AM we had orders to pack our knapsacks and be ready to march at a moments notice. Afternoon we had battalion drill. After supper we had three days rations dealt out to us expected that we would march in the night but did not.
