open field. Very heavy dew.
2nd.
This morning i went around to see the city did not think it a very nice one got three days rations and our small tents. Started at about 3 PM and marched eight miles camped in an open field slept on the ground.
3rd.
Started about 5 AM passed through Middleton Cookville and boonsborough marched about twenty one miles was very tired. Saw Lieut. Griggs and Theo. Harker of Harris Light Cav. Camped about half a mile from Bakersville in an open field.
4th.
Started about 4 PM and marched through bakersville. Marched about two miles camped on a hill near the first-­‐New Jersey brigade. Saw saw [sic] my old friends from Newton in Co. B 2nd Regt and Co. D. 3rd Regt. Light shower in the night the wind blowed hard and blew some of the tents down.
