27th.
Detailed on fatigue duty worked half day. In the afternoon went bathing washed drawers stockings and handkerchief.
28.
Wrote home to mother. Had a Regimental inspection and battalion drill. Meeting in the afternoon.
29th.
Was detailed for fatigue duty but was not called out – expected marching orders but did not get them.
30th.
Was called up at 3 AM to march. Formed in line of battle on the parade ground. Got started about 5 AM. Marched to Washington go there at 9 AM. Stacked arms near the capitol in the afternoon marched out to an open lot and camped on the ground at night – left our knapsacks in camp.
[October] 1st.
Was called up at one o’clock Am marched down to the depot and got on the cars and started for Frederick city arrived there at 3 o’clock PM the scenery was very nice all along the road. Saw the big iron bridge that the rebels blowed up camped on an open field. Very heavy dew.
