after coming from fatigue i went in the commissary tent to help Wm Cook deal out rations of fresh beef and bread was not on dress parade.
23rd.
Went to the commissary’s tent and helped all day. Mrs. Miller came from Newton today. Folks all well forty two men and a sargent [sic] detailed for fatigue duty was on dress parade.
24.
Worked in commissary tent all day. Was not on dress parade. Received some things from home got some cake and butter and catsup and segars and paper. Got a letter from Mag. Second Lieut. Came today.
25.
Detailed on guard today was relieved about 9 o’clock of the 26th.
Tried to get a permanent situation in the quartermasters but could not get it saw Watson Chambers of Co. D. 3rd Regt NJV. Sargent [sic] Thomas Steele of Co. H was reduced to the ranks for drunkenness.
