17th. Sunday.
Prepared for inspection at eight o’clock heard the articles of war read by Lieu. C. C. Shimer, thought that they was very strict – attended meeting in woods on the camp ground. Text was First Timothy 6th chapter, 12 ve.
18th.
In the evening Capt. Simpson arrived with 14 recruits among them was Henry Landing and Edward Miller. Edward Simpson came down on a visit, received a pin cushion and needle book from Newton.
19th.
Got a pass to go to the river bathing after dinner there was great excitement on account of drumming a secessionist out of camp about 9 o’clock Albert Grover came in camp.
20th.
Visitors from Newton: Job. B. Woodruff and Oakley B. Rellett. In afternoon Martin Ryerson made a speech about the allotment system. Signed the roll for Government bounty.
