July 15th Friday
We are about a quarter of a mile from _____. My company is doing provost dury in the town. Major Bowman is provo marshall. There was a man hung near us this noon. He was convicted of abeing a spy. He belonged to our army and deserted to the rebels and was captured ___ Petersburg. He died very hard. Issued two days rations. It is thought that we will move in the morning. The rebels have took everything around this neighborhood.
