18th Saturday
As soon as we parked this morning was ordered to take four days rations to the front. It is said that our troops are about six miles from here. Started out with the ____ about ____. Crossed the citypoint and Petersburg RR ____. Crossed the Appomattox River at point of ____. We got to the river at twelve AM (or PM) but did not get across until 9 at night. Found our brigade about two miles from the river. Got through issuing and returned to the river at two oclock. Parked on the bank of the river. On our way our today we passed a negro battery that was firing at a rebel fort in front of Petersburg.
