5th Thursday
Clear and very pleasant
not much to do today
went to the Div. Hospital
did not go to bed
until four o'clock=this
morning. was working
on the monthly papers.
6th Friday
Cloudy and stormy
John Cope Co of 4th Regt
was shot today for desertion
to the enemy. He was shot
in front of Fort Wadsworth
and outside of the breastworks
the whole Division was in
line. He died very easy
this is the first execution
that I have eye witnessed
