13th Thursday
Started about seven AM
passed through Whitepost
and Millwood (VA.). The head
of the column first commenced
crossing the River (Shenandoah)
when the orders was countermanded
the greatest enthusiasm
prevailed among the men
as it was generally understood
that our destination was
City point.
At Millwood the rest of
the train that was left at
winchester came up and
we all went in park for
the night. the troops are
ransacking every house
and killing every pig
chicken and sheep that
can be found
