8th Monday
Clear and very hot went to the brigade and issued one days rations. General Torberts (sic)* division of Cavalry went past here today. General Sheridan (Philip Henry) is in command of this Dept. Clothing was issue today. I drew a pair of pants. Wrote to Dewey & Cvalir (?) Received a letter from Mag. Also two papers.
*Transcriber's note: Alfred Thomas Archimedes Torbert (1833-1880). Breveted as major general in both regular and volunteer armies; however mustered out in 1866 as brigadier general of volunteers and resigned as a regular captain the same year
