May 5th Thursday
Clear and pleasant in the ____. The teams ____ ____ all night. It was quite cold. Did not get much sleep. About six oclock the teams ____ for the first time since yesterday morning. ___ ninth cavalry division passed us this morning. The place where we stopped ____ night is call Richardsville. It is only about three miles from here to ____ river and we did not get a ____ until about two oclock. Saw Col ____ and Lewis Coehnan. We packed just on the bank(?) river. Stayed (or stood) there about an hour. Then went on about a mile. Camped for the night. Slept very soundly. Heard some cannon fire(?).
