5th Monday got up at half past three on the morning and commenced to pack up did not get started untill eight AM passed through Culpeper Arrived at Mitchell station about two P.M. Can see the rebel signal station from here. We relieved the second corps. Capt Fith has been appointed post commissary and Lieut Brad- ford receiving officer. It is that there is a good prospect though of wintering here. clear and pleasant today. I drove a team a lot of the way. the train was not allowed to get within a mile of the depot for fear of getting shelled. two trains came up today. One brought soft bread and the other sutler and express goods. It is said that the whole of our Corps is on picket.
