June 2 Friday
Clear and very hot Started about six a.m. the troops marched in review through Fairfax. I rode ahead and saw Father and all of my friends in the 3rd NJ Cav passed through the 2nd and 5th corps camps. Camped at Ball's crossroads four miles from Washington[.) It is rumored that we will go on to Tennally Town tomorrow. One of the headquarter wagons upset today not much damage done[ . ] Received a paper from home
