April 18 Tuesday
Clear and very pleasant Business not very brisk Was down to Capt . Fitt' s quarters awful dull and lonesome
April 19 Wednesday
Clear and pleasant. It is a very beautiful day. All unnecessary work is suspended today. Flags are displayed at half mast Brass Bands are playing doleful tunes and everybody and everything wears a mournful aspect in respect for the late President. Mart Kintner [commissary sergeant 15th N. J .]& I went to army H Q's and stopped at the regt[?] as we came back bought a New York Herald of the 17th. It is in mourning
