(June 25th Thursday) but it is an awful looking place now. There is one or two nice places. I was in the church and the floor was all taken up and There had been horses stabled in it the windows were all broken and the weather boards torn off and it was just so with all of the houses. There is a salve pen here which was quite a curiosity. it is something like our jails only not so secure. About dusk very sharp cannonading commenced. It appeared to be near Fairfax Station. It continued untill [sic] late in the night. We have eventhing [sic] packed in the wagons ready to start a moments notice. We expect to leave before morning a very large supply and ammunitions train is going towards chain bridge.
