The road was very bad traveled al lnight passed a great many wagons that was broken and upset there was a gread [sic] deal of ammunitions and forage strewn along the road. We arrived in dumfries about six AM after crossing the accotink[?] or head waters of the Potomac dumfries a small place. There is only one street and i should think that there is about a dozen houses in it. All the citizens that I saw was two or three men and two woman [sic]. At this place we left three days rations for the brigade in charge of quartermaster Crane of the 2nd Regt. The commissary sergeants also
