June 7th Sunday
Clear but quite cool all day In the morning I went out to the front and issued fresh Bread to the brigade, found they were on this side of the river yet. they laid on the plain just at the foot of the hills. After issuing there was about 350 loaves left and I sold them at six cents a loaf got back to headquarters about one o’clock PM. There was only one division across the river and there was only one or two divisions on their side. It does not look as if we intended to make a very strong effort to take the heights because there is so few troops along the river and there is troops that have not broke camp yet. both behind us and between us and at the river the boys are swimming in the river
