June 5th Friday
Clear and warm today – Issued three day Rations to the brigade. About 10 AM orders came to be ready to march at a moments notice. was very busy all day packing up and getting ready to start was around to the regiments twice and to the butchers once. Our commissary guard composed of a corperal [sic] and six privates out of the twenty third regt left us today to report to their respective companies. Sold one barrel of whiskey today. we have got a new guard they are a part of the provost guard. Our wagon that we usually sleep in has gone to get fixed and so i have to sleep on the ground. Some troops passed here today going toward the river. Just at night heavy firing was heard it is reported that our men are across.
