a hollow square and the col and chaplain went in and the chaplain made a short address about the departure of the old year and the coming in of the new one after the address there was a prayer and a benediction and we was dismissed and went to our quarters. Liquor was to be had quite freely and at night our non-‐commissioned officers was nearly all drunk. they fought and hollered around camp for some time
