14th Sunday
we left the fence where we laid last night about eight o’clock AM and went over into the gully where we laid night before last. after we got in there we cooked our breakfast and then had a meeting before we came in the rebels opened fire on the left of us but one of our batteries soon silenced them. Up to the time that am writing there is not much firing. It is three o’clock now and the firing has ceased entirely there has been a mail today there was only one letter and one paper for Co I. Job Woodruff of the 27th was here today towards night a large mail came in I went to where the twenty seventh was and saw all the boys from Newton. They laid near the the [sic]
