28th.
received a letter and paper from home. Had brigade dress parade in the morning and in the afternoon. Saw Dan McCarter of 1st New Jersey Cav wrote a long letter to Mother and sent it with Mrs. Miller who is going home in the morning.
29th.
Brigade dress parade in the morning in the afternoon went to Commissary headquarters and did not get back in time for dress parade. order on dress parade that fourth sergeant Wm. O. Woodruff be reduced to the ranks for incompetency and first corporal John J. Jones appointed in his place. Private James P. Kelly was promoted to fill the vacancy earned by the promotion of Jones. at night we drew three days rations.
