Aug 1st, 1862
I was examined and passed by doctor Ryerson and swore in the United service by Capt. James H. Simpson.
Aug 5th
Started from Newton at 7 A.M. for Camp fair oaks, Flemington, Hunterdon County, where we arrived about 7 P.M. Got supper and equipped and marched out to camp. Stayed with [illegible] Savercool.
Aug 6th
Was not on duty today except at dress parade at half past six. 7th.
Was detailed for guard duty was on the third relief No. 9.
8th.
Was on guard until 9 A.M. was relieved. Got a pass to go to Flemington until 4 o’clock P.M. Bought a knit undershirt, silk handkercheif [sic], carpet bag, paper and small article. Weather very hot.
