July 7th Thursday
The heat is extreme and dust awful. In the afternoon we had a few drops of rain not enough to do any good. Sent two days light rations to the front. Two days pork, green cabbage, string bean, dried apples, beans, ____ pepper and ____. No more talk of our going to Maryland. Our Brigade has order to go in summer ____. Firing has been heavy and steady in front of us today.
